Somerville Residents Urged to Vote in June Primary

The Somerville Democratic Committee urges all local residents who are registered voters to participate in this year’s primary election on Tuesday, June 2.  For Somerville Democrats, the 2026 primary is their chance to choose between four candidates running to represent District 7 in Congress: Rebecca Bennett, Michael Roth, Tina Shah, and Brian Varela.  In-person early voting for the primary runs from May 26 to May 29, while mail-n voting has already begun.

Also on the June primary ballot are two candidates running for Somerville Borough Council  who’ve been endorsed by the town’s Democratic Committee: Glen Denys and Mallory Craig-Karim. Glen Denys is an incumbent Councilman seeking his second term serving the community, while Mallory Craig-Karim is running for the first time. Both candidates are Somerville homeowners and parents who pledge to support safe, family-friendly neighborhoods, more transparent leadership, and a strong Public Library and other local institutions.

Glen Denys was born and raised in Somerville.  He attended the town’s public schools and is now a teacher in nearby Bernards Township.  As a Borough Councilman, Glen serves as Fire Commissioner and with other local residents on the Environmental Commission, the Raritan River Greenway, and the Office of Emergency Management. Preserving and enhancing Somerville’s natural resources and beauty is his passion, and he often volunteers for cleanups, tree plantings, and educational programs.

Mallory Craig-Karim is an attorney who focuses on issues of regulation, governance and long-term planning.  If elected, she’ll push for practical leadership, careful decision-making, and preparing for the town’s future while protecting its special qualities.

“For the last ten years, Somerville’s voters have put their trust in Democratic candidates in every Borough Council election,” said Margaret Weinberger, who chairs the local Democratic Committee.  “Our two Council candidates for 2026 are smart, thoughtful, hard-working residents, and the perfect people we want representing us and Somerville.”
